Your Excellency

Mr. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva 

President of Federative Republic of Brazil

 

 

    Mr. President,

 

    With much indignation we are watching the news about the bombing that is
going on against Gaza. We are not facing just an aggression against
Palestinians or Arabs, but a crime that hits all Humanity and is an
aggression against international law. 

    It is not defense, but state terrorism, cruel murders of children,
elders and women. The robbery of land is followed now by the stealing of
lives.  

    Every kind of peace dialogues has been already tried. By using its
international prestige, the Brazilian government sent our Minister of
International Relations to discuss the end of this slaughter. This
initiative enhanced our country before the loving peace peoples.
Nevertheless, Israel maintains itself confident that won’t face serious
costs for its barbarian acts.

    CGTB considers that the next step the Brazil should undertake is to
stall all the importation from Israel – which is very dependent of
international trade -, until Israel stops the aggression against the
Palestinian people, once the economic sanctions are the most effective tool
in the stock of non-violent measures.   

    Hundreds of Israelis, dozens of them academics and known artists, sent a
letter to the foreign ambassadors that work in Israel asking for
“restrictive measures and immediate sanctions”. They stated a clear sight of
the struggle against apartheid: "The boycott against South Africa was
effective, but Israel is treated with care. The international support must
be retired”.
