*Recent news makes it clear why it is more important than ever that we 
take to the streets on August 2. *

Stop War on Iran, an international grassroots campaign, issued an 
Emergency Call to for protests, marches, and other actions on the 
weekend of August 2.  As we are sure you a well aware the danger of a 
ANOTHER war, a war on IRAN, is all too real and possible. *It is URGENT 
that the anti-war movement speak out load and clear NOW.*

It's great if you have already taken action. We want to also encourage 
you to support the days of coordinated actions August 1, 2, 3 initiated 
by the Stop War On Iran Campaign: http://www.stopwaroniran.org.

Many hundreds of groups have signed on to support and plan actions. 
Thousands of organizations and individuals have endorsed 
<http://stopwaroniran.org/aug22008endorse.shtml>. Tens of thousands have 
signed the on-line petitions 
<http://stopwaroniran.org/aug22008endorse.shtml>. *Please think what it is
possible for YOU to do with even a handful of other local activists.*

Already there are local actions in more than 50 cities that we know of. 
 From Utah to Florida, Canada to Arizona, North Carolina to Hawaii, 
folks are picketing recruitment centers, holding vigils, demonstrating 
and marching, or just handing out leaflets, getting petitions signed, or 
holding "Honk if you oppose war in Iran" signs on. If you live in the 
greater New York City area, please come to the major regional 
demonstration and march, assembling at Times Square at 12 noon.

side, & fill in any relevant information. If you are planning an action 
but do not yet have all the details then just put in: "Activity being 
planned. Please contact us." You can also mention regular meetings, or 
other information you'd like. (The August 2 Organizing Center listing 
will not be permanently accessible.)

WHY? Besides helping to concretely Stop a War on Iran, posting local 
info gives progressive people in your area knowledge of a group or 
individual to connect with - and it inspires others who see that 
activity is going on in so many locations.

information" (see center near top);  2) A downloadable petition 
<http://stopwaroniran.org/petition.pdf> (see 1st link on left side). 
Folks have found both of these very useful "meet & talk to passerbys" 
tools.  In the coming days we will be posting PDFs of placards that can 
be downloaded for use on August 2 and at other anti-war and progressive 
events.
