*50,000 EMAIL MESSAGES SENT TO THE HOUSE AND SENATE BANKING AND FINANCE
COMMITTEE- SAYING - DON'T MEET WITH THE MORTGAGE BANKERS ASSOCIATION*

In response to an online petition campaign at
StopForeclosuresandEvictions.org 
<http://www.StopForeclosuresandEvictions.org>, over 50,000 email 
messages have been sent to the members of the House and Senate Banking 
and Finance Committees demanding a
moratorium on bank foreclosures and evictions. The number is continuing 
to grow!


The petition says, in part "..The speedy, expensive, and extraordinary 
action that the Federal Reserve Bank took in response to the Bears 
Stearns crisis a few days ago is, in reality, tantamount to a 
government-enacted moratorium on bank failures...The Fed's action 
required no legislation,
no hearings, no studies, no half measures, and no time lag. Why is it, 
then, that a similar moratorium on home foreclosures and evictions 
cannot be enacted to stop the largest number of home foreclosures since 
the Depression of the 1930s?"

Momentum is growing around the country. There are now over 550 community 
based endorsers from 44 different states organizing for the 
demonstration. Transportation is being organized from Michigan,Ohio, 
Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, North 
Carolina,
Georgia, Florida and other states.

D.C., PG county, College Park, Northern Va., Baltimore and Maryland 
activists are putting on their marching shoes. In fact, anyone who is 
just plain fed up with the injustice of people losing their homes - who 
want to stop evictions, homelessness - who don't want our tax money 
spent to bail out one more multi-billion dollar bank rather than helping
poor and working people - are making plans to be outside the Mortgage 
Bankers Association's annual policy making conference on April 16th to say:
